Concrete is primarily used in construction and is second to concreting as the most commonly used material in the earth; and second to natural stone as well as bricks in the number of applications where it can be used. It is obtained by mixing aggregates, cement, water and other materials in prescribed quantities, (as per in given as given below figure), and sometimes in mixtures. In many cases concrete is mixed with sand or even gravel in order to add more strength and rigidity to the mixture. This has been done so that in case of earthquakes the concrete that has been poured will stay intact for a longer time period and will not collapse like some other materials. The concrete is formed from the mixture of aggregates, water and cement that are mixed into a liquid form. When this is poured into a mold and hardened, the resulting concrete is ready to be used.

Concreting – the most commonly used material in the earth

Concrete has many applications as far as roads are concerned; hence the need for concreting the roads is on the rise. A road is basically composed of several layers of concrete, which in turn have varying levels of concreteness or softness depending upon the weather condition and the surface conditions. When the concrete is concreted in various layers, the resulting material is called as a “road-block” or a “masonry wall”. In this way the road will last longer and will not need any major repairs after a considerable amount of time period. Concrete has a specific color and is hard and solid, therefore it makes up the major part of our structures, but it is also flexible, which makes it suitable for many other uses besides road construction.

There are many different types of concreting materials which are available in the market and they come with varied price tags too. Some of these include stone concreting, sheet concreting, wet concrete and dry concreting, but there are also others which have added benefits, like fireproof, slip-resistant, earthquake proof, waterproof, etc. These concretes are mainly manufactured and used to construct dams, bridges, foundations and many other building. The concretes are very much used as a building material for residential and commercial purposes. This is because of the many positive aspects that it has on the environment as it has no harmful effects on the ground at all, unlike other traditional methods of construction.
